For Love and Humanity

On September 18, 2025, the spirit of Christian charity and fellowship came together at the “For Love & Humanity” benefit gala at the Venu Event Space in Concord, Ont.

Hosted by the Grand Priory of Canada of the Sovereign Hospitallers Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, in collaboration with His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, the event raised $150,000 in support of Good Shepherd Ministries’ work to help those experiencing homelessness and poverty and Canadian Food for Children, a volunteer-based charity committed to delivering essential food and supplies to some of the world’s most impoverished communities in more than 30 developing nations.

The evening featured remarks from Cardinal Leo, Premier Doug Ford and Mario Cortellucci, who spoke on the Christian call to charity, the importance of community and the enduring value of compassionate service – and special performance from Canadian music icon Andy Kim.

The Grand Priory of Canada of the Sovereign Hospitallers Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta is a Christian order of chivalry with a legacy of faith, service, and compassion dating back to the 11th century. The Order is dedicated to defending the faith and serving the poor its enduring motto: Ut Unum Sint.

In Canada, under the leadership of His Excellency, Chev. Dr. Mario Cortellucci, the Grand Priory, furthers this mission through its registered charitable organization, the O.S.J. Charities Trust Fund. The Trust actively supports initiatives that aid the poor, care for the sick, and uplift the marginalized, both locally and globally, through acts of Christian charity and humanitarian outreach. 

Through unity, generosity, and Christian love, the evening was a reminder to all of our shared calling to be instruments of compassion, dignity, and service in the world.
